MediFly is the name given to our sterile, medicinal grade maggots' product, used in maggot debridement therapy under the name of ‘BioDressings'. The maggots are produced under laboratory conditions and are sterile to ensure the safety of the product when used for treating patients with a number of different conditions.

Only specific species of flies are used in the production of medical grade maggots, in this case Lucilia cuprina, an indigenous fly. The reason for this is that not all fly species, of which there are over 100,000, are suitable for use in maggot debridement therapy. The flies are ‘non-wild' types that have been bred in captivity, free from outside contamination, thereby helping to further ensure the safety and efficacy of the production process.

Our sterile maggots are then delivered directly to hospitals for use on their patients, after which they are hygienically and safely disposed of.
